A global context at a crossroads
The ocean covers 70% of our planet, providing vital services to our societies and to natural ecosystems. Assailed from all sides, the ocean is subject to multiple pressures, and the warning signs have been present for several decades. France is no exception in the face of these threats.
Yet for many years our country has nurtured a special relationship with the deep blue, and many great French names have left their mark on the history of the oceans: Jules Verne, Jacques-Yves Cousteau, Jean-Baptiste Charcot… Strengthened by this history and home to the world's 2nd largest maritime territory, France must stand as a leader in the conservation of marine resources, both nationally and globally.
We stand at a turning point: we can keep on preventing, or start to act.
From 2024 to 2025, France has the opportunity to prove its worth and its dedication to the ocean during the Year of the Sea and the United Nations Ocean Conference in Nice in June 2025. By carrying the voice of France’s sea actors, we intend to rise to these occasions.

Because the challenges the ocean faces are numerous and affect our entire planet, it is the whole of society that must mobilise and become aware of the urgency of this crisis. Yet society and the public today feel powerless in the face of the volume of alarming news about our planet, plunging us into deep denial and inaction.
Through a positive vision oriented towards concrete, hope-bearing solutions, we hope to inspire, unite and involve the public in a more sustainable future for our oceans and our societies. Fortunately, France has a multitude of actors who depend on the sea and who already work every day to better understand and preserve it.
Our approach is simple: to ally with these experts, scientists, NGOs and sea professionals in order to show their work and the solutions they propose, and to create inspiring visuals.
Our goal: to carry out concrete actions for the ocean, to make a real difference. By uniting as many actors of the sea sector as possible under one banner, we create a true community for the ocean and stand together to amplify our message and the impact of our actions.
